Training Teams to Win Over Internal Stakeholders at DBS
DBS is a leading financial group services in Asia with a presence in 19 markets. DBS’ digital strategy strives to embrace technology and reimagine the customer journey.
Challenges
The Struggle with Getting Stakeholder Buy-Ins for Strategy Development
Responsible for servicing individuals and small businesses, the consumer banking team directly impacts mass market. However, when it came to getting buy-in from internal stakeholders, the team struggled to tell a persuasive and engaging story with data.
Without having a tried-and-tested process to structure internal presentations, key messages were often buried deep amidst technical financial terms, leading to multiple back-and-forths and frustration between internal stakeholders.
How we helped
Tapping on the Power of Persuasion for Presentations
We empowered learners to utilise presentations as a persuasion tool to achieve internal goals.
In our full day workshop, learners reframed their key messages and went beyond just numbers and technical terms. The workshop was a platform for learners to practice unburying their key messages and spotlight what was relevant for different audiences.
Techniques to engage and increase memorability were and immediate feedback from both the trainer and peers was received to identify potential gaps and discuss how they could be applied in the real world to obtain buy-ins from busy C-suite stakeholders.
Results

Each participant was empowered with a toolkit to weave storytelling techniques into presentations resulting in compelling business stories.

Symrise | Flavours & Fragrance
Increasing ROI of Symrise’s Sales Pitches with a Clear Narrative
Symrise is a chemicals company that develops, produces and sells fragrance, flavoring and food ingredients, cosmetic active ingredients and raw materials as well as functional ingredients and solutions that enhance the sensory properties and nutrition of various products.
- Food Technologist

- Application Technologist
Challenges
The Need to Set Symrise Apart from Competitors
A renowned flavour and fragrance supplier, Symrise aimed to increase its ROI in every sales pitch made by its marketing team. However, in this increasingly competitive landscape, Symrise needed to set itself apart from its competitors and excel as an innovation leader.
The team struggled with identifying their unique winning proposition and how they could tailor it specifically to different audiences across their multiple client industries such as perfume and F&B.
How we helped
Leveraging on the Art of Story-Selling as a Powerful Tool
Over the course of 2 days, we used our business storytelling frameworks as a solid foundation to guide the team in identifying both their winning proposition and actionable methods to increase audience buy-ins.
By revamping their existing sales narrative into a highly persuasive one that included relevant pain points and an emotional connection, their sales pitch approach had a paradigm shift – making it nearly impossible for audiences to reject their new pitches.
At the end of the workshop, learners left with:
A contextualised approach to apply the frameworks quickly and effectively to audiences no matter the industry.
A ready-to-be-presented storyboard that was tried and tested amongst participants and would be used to craft powerful stories to persuade audiences.
Results
Story Frameworks used as a Solid Foundation to Identify Winning Propositions
A toolbox of powerful stories crafted during the workshop to be immediately used on upcoming sales pitches
Ready-to-be presented sales storyboard created during the workshop to be immediately applicable

Using Simple Terms to Support Patient Care

Amidst their busy schedules, the doctors grappled with simplifying difficult medical terms and delivering that information in a logical and concise manner that would be understood by the laymen.

Challenges
Communicating Science in a Complex Environment
With great science comes complex terms – a challenge faced by the R&D capabilities team in making information accessible to stakeholders during presentations.
Unclear and technical presentations hindered collaboration efforts amongst internal stakeholders, and the team was in need of storytelling techniques to simplify the information while conveying a clear narrative with action steps.
How we helped
Decluttering Presentations Without Losing Depth
Highspark’s 2-day program on ‘Stories that Stick’ and ‘Visual Persuasion’ focused on empowering learners to transform complex scientific data into insightful presentations that would be easily digested by key stakeholders.
By harnessing the power of storytelling, learners could streamline their scientific presentations and visually highlight key messages for audiences to take action.
We customised key storytelling techniques to meet the needs of a scientific presentation that would engage and influence stakeholders. For example, bringing the key message to life was a method explored where learners were equipped with techniques to say the same scientific messages in a different way that would be engaging even for an audience unfamiliar with these concepts.
Learners were introduced to frameworks that visualised key concepts using imagery and translated complex text into visuals that impressed and empowered them. This ensured insights were not only informative but actionable
Results

I was facing challenges making my slides interesting and easy to understand. Was also feeling very uninspired when making slides because I did not know how to make it visually appealing.
If I had to put a number to this workshop, I would say more than a million dollars because each deal made ranges from tens to hundreds of thousands and it all starts with presenting our slide deck.
